“The successful holding of the Third High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018-2028” in Dushanbe and the adoption of the relevant UN resolution on the “Decade for Strengthening Peace for Future Generations” are among the important events of the past year,” in was noted by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs during a press conference.

Also during the press conference, one of the memorable events of the past year was the inclusion of the joint performances of the Republic of Tajikistan “Mehrgon Festival” in cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and “The Art of Making and Playing the Rubob” together with the countries of Iran, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, on the UNESCO Intangible Heritage List at the 19th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In addition, it was emphasized that Tajikistan took steps in 2024 to present new initiatives at the United Nations, proposing three new initiatives that were adopted through relevant resolutions. These are the “Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences for 2025-2034”, “International Day of the Morkhur goat” and the declaration of “World Football Day”.

These initiatives reflect the country’s prominent role in advancing the water and climate agenda, including the protection of glaciers and biodiversity, and sports at the global level.
