Istaravshan is one of the ancient cities with a history of more than three thousand years is located in North of Tajikistan. This  old city changed its name several times during its existence. Today, in this ancient city, residents continue to practice all the ancient crafts of the Tajik nation.

The people of ancient Istaravshan are engaged in more than 150 types of handicrafts, all of which have been preserved in this city. One of the crafts preserved by the people of Istaravshan is blacksmithing, which has made the name of the city of Istaravshan famous in the international arena.

It should be noted that Istaravshan city was officially declared the world city of handicrafts as part of the first international crafts festival “Ozar”, more than 250 craftsmen from 19 countries participated in the first international crafts festival in this ancient city. Istaravshan is one of the ancient cities of artisans, where 150 types of folk crafts are popular. Undoubtedly, arts and crafts are still flourishing in this ancient city, which will revive the history and culture of the Tajik nation and present it to the world. According to the information of historical sources, in the past there were almost 700 craft shops in the city of Istaravshan, which are proof that Istaravshan is recognized as the ancient world city of handicrafts.
