Chitgari is a craft that decorates white cotton fabrics with the use of special molds. The colors used in chitgari are made from plants, fruit skins and tree roots. These types of fabrics are used for clothes, home decoration, tableware, blankets and everything that is necessary for a person. The art of chitgari is ancient, and its example is preserved in the national museum of Tajikistan, which shows the high art of practice. This craft has reached a high level in the city of Istaravshan, and today the artisans in the city of Khujand are developing it as well.
Mold plays the main role in chitgari. In the past, molds were passed down from generation to generation, and each mold lived for 300-400 years.
Chitgari also has its own nuances, and several stages of work go through to strengthen the pattern on the fabric.
