The Development of Basket-weaving in Tajikistan

Basket-weaving is one of the ancient arts, and it was used even in the distant past. Tajiks weave baskets of various sizes to store food.

Basket weaving requires special skills. Usually, the basket is woven from the branches of various trees. Almost  the art of basket weaving is similar everywhere. However, when weaving baskets, each craftsman shows skill for the quality and marketability of his products.

Basket weavers also weave a variety of wonderful baskets from wheat stalks, which are given as gifts.

In the past, basket weaving was a craft that was passed down from generation to generation. There were families who learned this profession from their parents, taught it to their children, and earned for their living. Throughout the country, the art of basket weaving is developing along with other ancient Tajik crafts. The art of basket weaving is still popular among the Tajik people. Today, basket weavers weave small and large decorative baskets from various products, and also weave decorative objects and present them to people.
